Good morning, Hawkins! This is WSQK The Squawk!

WSQK 94.5 FM, also known as the Squawk, is a radio station where Robin Buckley and Steve Harrington work and broadcast the Morning Squawk — which serves as a decoy for them to relay information regarding military operations to the Upside Down to their allies.

Behind the scenes[]

The Duffer Brothers explained that the design of the WSQK station was inspired by a real art‑deco radio building in North Carolina, located about ten miles from their childhood home. Matt Duffer said he discovered it while searching online for images of radio stations, noting that although they hadn't noticed it growing up, its exterior and interior became the basis for WSQK, while Ross emphasized the personal connection to its proximity;[2] the real‑life structure had already been identified by Hidden Historian much earlier as the abandoned 1940s WPTF station in Cary, North Carolina, whose art‑deco design and interior details closely match the fictional WSQK.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Global teamed up with Netflix to create an official radio station of the Squawk. It played hits from the '80s and occasionally gave updates about Hawkins, with its DJ hosts including Mary Price, Vance Goodman, and Mindy Flare.[4] The radio channel aired on 94.5 FM and Global from November 28 to December 12, from 12am to 9pm until January 1, 2026.
