Happy Mother's Day, fellow Stranger Things fans! As we celebrate today cherishing, loving and spending time with our mothers or maternal guardians, let me remind you of some awesome moments from the mother characters in our beloved show of Stranger Things.
1) Joyce Byers-The show's main lead mother character who is well-know for her temper and fiery spirit, but her determination to find and rescue her son, Will remains strong if people thought she was insane or going mad with grief. Joyce also extends her mothership to Will's friends, protecting them from both the dangers of the Upside Down and government agents and always risking her life to save the children no matter what.
2) Karen Wheeler-While she doesn't have a very larger role like Joyce, Karen does her best to look after her children and make sure they are safe, even if she is not yet aware of the supernatural threats they've encountered. She also managed to stop herself from having an age gap relationship with Billy Hargrove for her children's sake and lifted Nancy's spirits after she suffered bullying from misogynist co-workers from the Hawkins Post. While Karen can be clueless at times and not as active as Joyce, she is still a good mother who loves her children with all her heart.
3) Terry Ives-Though she has a small role, Terry is still a recognizable mother in the show through her actions and personality. Despite getting involved with MKUltra which led to her daughter, Jane "Eleven" being born with powers, Terry loved her unconditionally and was smart enough to realize her newborn baby had been abducted by Dr. Martin Brenner right after her birth. Like Joyce, nobody believed Terry about her daughter being kidnapped, but it did not stop her from giving up on Eleven. Even if she failed to rescue her daughter, which led to Brenner torturing her to insanity, Terry was willing to through extreme lengths to reunite with Eleven, showing her love towards her daughter and her determination to save her.
Now there are side mother characters who may not left a big impact like Joyce, Karen, and Terry, but they are still good parents even if they have flaws and small roles in their children's lives.
1) Claudia Henderson-While she may be clueless and a big cat lover, Claudia loves her son very much and is always looking out for him despite not having a husband like Joyce.
2) Sue Sinclair-While her role is small, Sue loves both of her children very much and does her best to make sure they're safe and on their best behavior, especially Erica.
3) Susan Hargrove-While she married an abusive man who later divorced her after the death of his only son, causing her to be an alcoholic, Susan does love her daughter, Max and is willing to work two jobs to provide her.
All mothers have their flaws and are not perfect, but we must remember the love, guidance, protection, nutrition, and care they provide us even if they are not our biological mother because having a maternal figure is the most important figure in our lives as we grow up, idolizing and learning from them.
