This article is about the fictional/in-universe USS Eldridge. The inclusion of information specific to the real-world USS Eldridge should be kept to a minimum. |
The USS Eldridge was a US navy ship used in the secret government experiments known as both "Project Rainbow" and the Philadelphia Experiment. The ship was captained by Captain Brenner.
In 1943, an experimental device aboard the ship was activated, with scientists hoping to turn the ship invisible and undetectable to the Germans. However, this apparently instead caused the vessel to travel to Dimension X, with most of the crew being killed in the process.
Only Captain Brenner survived the disaster; on his deathbed, he finally divulged the truth about the incident to his son, Martin. Martin Brenner would later be involved in the Nevada Experiment in the 1950s, an attempt to replicate what had happened to the Eldridge. The "Project Rainbow" name later served as Brenner's inspiration behind the Rainbow Room at Hawkins Lab.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The USS Eldridge was a real US naval vessel, and the Philadelphia Experiment/Project Rainbow connected with the ship is a widely known conspiracy theory.
