The Weekly Streak was a student-run local newspaper based at Hawkins High School. The paper had over a half-dozen contributors, including Nancy Wheeler and Fred Benson. The paper's motto was "Keeping Hawkins High Informed".[1][2]

At some point, Hawkins High School adopted The Weekly Streak as its school newspaper. By 1986, Nancy Wheeler, Fred Benson, and Candace joined the newspaper.[1]
1986[]
Fred and Nancy conversed about the Hawkins High Basketball Team's upcoming match, stating that it would make for a great headline. The session was interrupted by Nancy's younger brother, Mike, who asked Nancy if she wanted to join the Hellfire Club for the night. Fred and Nancy attended the basketball game and took notes for the newspaper.[1] However, a couple days later, after the death of head Hawkins High School Cheerleading Squad Chrissy Cunningham, Fred commented that no one would care about the game. Later on, while investigating Chrissy's death, Fred himself was killed in the same manner.[3]
