Background[]
The Hideout was a remote bar, located between an abandoned steelworks and a fallow cornfield. It benefited from its inconvenient location, attracting a handful of regular alcoholics (such as Drunk Sam) and being profitable to lurking activities.
The establishment wasowned by Bev, a five-foot tall woman, who inherited the business of her late husband in 1974. She had dyed-maroon hair, a permanent squint and always shouted despite her bar being relatively quiet.
The Hideout was a rather dark place with neon lighting and bricked up windows, seemingly in response to broken windows following fights inside the bar. It had carpeted floors that had never been cleaned and sticky countertops equally unhygienic. The atmosphere was constantly saturated with cigarette fumes. The Hideout also had a parking lot, composed mainly of gravel.
Bev sometimes attempted to attract new customers with 'fifty-cent beer nights'. She didn’t look closely at who she served alcohol to. Hence, the members of Corroded Coffin (ranking from juniors to seniors) were all able to drink at the Hideout without having to present their identity cards.[1]
The Hideout had a wooden stage in pitiful condition. In exchange for working as a barback four nights a week, Bev allowed Eddie to perform there with his band on Tuesdays, at ten p.m. It was the only bar within twenty miles that played live music.
1984[]
Eddie met Paige Warner, a former Hawkins High student, at the Hideout while she was temporarily back in her hometown. There, she heard Corroded Coffin play and saw their potential to sign a deal with the record label she was working for.[1]
1986[]
When discussing with Chrissy Cunningham in March, 1986, Eddie invited the cheerleader to come and see Corroded Coffin perform.[2]
Trivia[]
- Bev always called Eddie "Junior" in reference to his father, Al Munson, having a reputation in Hawkins.
- At the beginning of Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus, Bev said that Corroded Coffin's music gives her headaches. Eventually, she confessed by the end that she misses their music.
- The Hideout served Coors, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Bud Light, Jack and Coke, off-brand pop, vodka and other beers.
