Episode Titles[]
Hey, I'm just here to say I'm really impressed with everyone's work on this wiki! Superb job! Just a query: Why aren't the page titles for the episodes the full titles that they are presented as on Netflix, i.e. "Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers" as opposed to "The Vanishing of Will Byers"? Was it just a decision to make the page titles easier to access or something of the sort? Thanks!

- Several reasons. They are rarely referenced with that full title. They are more easily indexed by search engines (and humans) by the unique names without the filler words. They are more easily linked with the descriptive names. Limitations in MediaWiki make titles with a colon I unwieldy and with unpredictable results (as they usually indicate a namespace change). And they're really easily identified as episodes without the qualifier. There are plenty of reasons to omit the qualifier, but the only real reason to leave it in is fairly arbitrary and perhaps a little pretentious. FishTank (wall) 13:47, September 1, 2016 (UTC)
- That sounds fair enough. Thanks for the reply! :)

- What if you keep the titles the same, but change the display titles?

- IMDb is probably not great to add as a canonical reference, for purposes of this discussion, as it's also user driven. I think it's a bit of a leap to say that Netflix doesn't have other means of determining that prefix, or that viewers can't identify the correct episode based on the descriptive title. In fact, Netflix cuts off the full title in some renders, which is bad for them. Changing the display title is bad from an SEO end for our purposes, as it also makes references not obvious. How about a compromise: a field in the episode infobox for "full title"? FishTank (wall) 17:32, September 3, 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm fine with that compromise. Sorry for being so difficult to deal with. :) SW-1313 (talk)
