Sue Sinclair (née Anderson),[1] portrayed by Tara Wescott in the first season and by Karen Ceesay in the second and fourth seasons, is a recurring character in Stranger Things. She is the wife of Charles Sinclair, and the mother of Lucas Sinclair and Erica Sinclair.
History[]
Background[]
Sue Anderson was presumably born In the small town of Hawkins, Indiana. By 1959, she was attending high school at Hawkins High School. She eventually married Charles Sinclair, who had served in Vietnam. The couple had two children; Lucas Charles Sinclair in 1971, and Erica Sinclair in 1975.
1983[]
On November 11, Sue, along with her family, attended Will Byers' funeral. The next day, Sue and Charles reunited with Lucas after being rescued from Hawkins Middle.
1984[]
On October 31, Sue gleefully took pictures of Lucas in his Ghostbusters costume, gushing that he was adorable and loved the costume. Erica, watching unamused, called Lucas a nerd and remarked that it "no wonder [he] only hung out with boys". Sue scolded her and rolled her eyes when Erica said it was "just the facts", before she returned taking pictures of Lucas.
On November 3, the Sinclairs ate breakfast as Sue told Erica she had enough maple syrup on her pancakes. Lucas asked Charles what he does to make Sue happy again after they fight. Sue commented that it was a good question and asked how did he do it. Charles said he usually apologized and then would buy whatever Sue desired. Lucas asked if he does it even if Sue was wrong, though Charles insisted that Sue was never wrong, to which Sue jokingly agreed. Lucas, wanting to take his father's advice with his crush, Max Mayfield, dumped his breakfast, saying he wasn't hungry. As he left, Sue asked where he was going, and Lucas lied by saying he was hanging out with Dustin. Sue then turned her attention to Erica still pouring syrup on her food, glaring at her silently as Erica quietly apologized and stopped.
On November 4, Max's stepbrother, Billy Hargrove came to their house, searching for Max, and Sue directed him to the Wheeler house.
1985[]
On July 2, while trapped in the Russian Elevator, Erica informed Dustin Henderson, Robin Buckley and Steve Harrington that she was supposed to have a sleepover at her friend Tina’s house, and that if she wasn't home for her Uncle Jack's party the next day and her mom found out why, she would find them and “slit their throats”.
1986[]
On March 24, Jason Carver arrived at the Sinclair house in search of Lucas. When ringing the doorbell, Sue asked if Erica could get the door. When Erica said she was busy, Sue sternly told her again to get the door, causing Erica to reluctantly comply.
On March 26, Sue, Charles, and Erica watched in silent horror in the living room of live coverage reporting the death of Patrick McKinney, Lucas' fellow player on the Hawkins High basketball team and the third victim of a murder spree plaguing Hawkins. The family later attended the community meeting held at the Hawkins Town Hall. Jason Carver encouraged townspeople to hunt down members of the Hellfire Club; Eddie Munson, the leader of the D&D club, was the prime suspect due to the first murder victim and Jason's girlfriend, Chrissy Cunningham, being discovered in his trailer. Erica protested that Hellfire was nothing more than "a club for nerds", though Sue yanked her down and told her to be quiet. As the town agreed with Jason, leaving to stock up to hunt down members of the club, Sue, along with Karen Wheeler and Claudia Henderson, expressed concern for their children being involved. The three families raced back to the Wheeler house, their children missing after lying to Karen that they had gone to see a movie. After Karen called the police, Lucas, Dustin, and Max were picked up from Lover's Lake, brought back to the Wheeler House for questioning regarding Eddie Munson's whereabouts. Sue and Charles scolded Erica for calling out the kids' flimsy lie of not knowing Eddie. When Ted suggested threatening the kids with jail time, Sue accused Ted of wanting to send Lucas to jail, causing an argument to break out among the adults. When the kids escaped through Nancy's bedroom window, Erica had slashed the police cars' tires, blocking the others from getting to them. Sue, among the other adults, yelled for Lucas and Erica to come back, to no avail.
