USER GUIDELINES

This page outlines the basic guidelines that users must follow while active on the Stranger Things Wiki. Please be aware that in addition to the guidelines on this page, users must also follow Fandom’s Terms of Use.

Any questions should be directed toward the wiki's staff.

Basic Guidelines

  • In compliance with the Terms of Use, users must be at least 13 years of age in order to create an account and contribute to this wiki. If you reside in the European Economic Area (excluding the UK), then you must be at least 16 years old.
  • Always assume good faith. Assume that all edits are made with good intentions even if they are wrong (excluding obvious vandalism). Likewise, if your edits are reverted, please assume that it was for a good reason. If you are not sure, it’s always best to ask.
  • Be Respectful. Users should be civil to one another. Absolutely no sexist, homophobic, racist, or any other derogatory remarks targeted towards any group of people are permitted. Basically, be a decent human being.
  • Do not engage with trolls. Occasionally, there may be a problem user who will vandalize pages and leave derogatory comments and messages. While it’s understandably tempting to engage with this person, it is preferred that this user is ignored. Undo any vandalism the user may have caused and alert an admin immediately.

Profiles and User Content

  • Users are free to customize their profiles as they see fit, as long as the content doesn't conflict with the rules on this page.
  • No sexual or explicit content will be permitted.
  • Fan content is only allowed on user profiles.
  • Before uploading fan content that you did not create yourself, get permission from the original creator.
  • If you have discovered that something you created is being used without your consent, please contact a member of the wiki's staff and the file in question will be removed.
  • Any files that break the rules will be deleted without warning. However, the user will be notified that the file was deleted, as well as the reason why.
  • Do NOT edit another user's profile without their permission.
  • If a user's profile content does not follow these guidelines, please contact an admin.

Editing

  • Users are expected to follow the wiki’s editing policies. Please see the Style Guide and Layout Guide for the complete explanation of editing policies.
  • Edits should be constructive and made with the purpose of improving an article’s content.
  • Do not engage in edit wars. Instead, discuss with other users or the wiki’s staff to find a solution.
  • Make sure to get permission from an admin before changing the infobox image for any page.
  • Vandalism will result in an automatic ban. The length of the ban will depend how severe the vandalism was.

Article Comments

  • All comments under an article’s comment section should pertain to that article in some way.
  • Inappropriate comments and comments containing spam will be removed.

Discussion Board

The Discussion Board’s guidelines can also be found here.

  • Be nice and treat people with respect. Keep discussions civil and be open-minded about differing opinions. Hateful conduct will not be tolerated.
  • Threads and posts that solicit upvotes will be deleted.
  • Off-topic posts and conversations will be deleted. Please use our official off-topic thread for these conversations.
  • Roleplay posts are not permitted and will be locked or deleted.
  • Impersonation of other users or famous people will not be tolerated. If you have been banned and return on a new account, your posts will be deleted and your new account(s) will be banned.
  • No sharing personal information about yourself or other people, including photos. The same applies to the cast and crew, unless relevant to Stranger Things.
  • Respect COPPA. You must be at least 13 to use Fandom, and you will be banned if you are underage.
  • Spamming, trolling, or vandalizing of any kind will be deleted and will lead to your account being banned.
  • When sharing fan art that is not your own, always credit the artist (unless you have no way of knowing who originally posted it).
  • Posts made with the sole purpose of spreading false information will be deleted.
  • Posts that contain leaked media or links to leaks and other unofficially released content will be subject to moderation action.
  • The report feature is for posts and comments that break the guidelines on this page. Do not report posts simply because you don't like them or for having an opinion you don't agree with.
  • Ask for help. Notice something that doesn't seem right? Or do you just have a question? Contact Fandom staff through "Give feedback" on the Settings screen.

Message Walls

The user rules for message walls are similar to those of the Discussion Board, but with a few differences.

  • Be nice and treat people with respect. Keep discussions civil and be open-minded about differing opinions.
  • Off-topic conversations are allowed -- you may use your message wall to chat with other users about topics other than Stranger Things.
  • Roleplaying is not permitted and repeated offenses could result in a ban.
  • Impersonation of other users or famous people will not be tolerated. If you have been banned and return on a new account, your posts will be deleted and your new account(s) will be banned.
  • Do not share photos or images of your face. Your message wall may be removed from the D-board, and thus give the illusion of being private. But it is still public and accessible to everyone.
  • Spamming, trolling, or vandalizing of any kind will be deleted and will lead to your account being banned.
  • Messages written with the sole purpose of spreading false information will be deleted.

Categorizing Posts

Why Categorize? The categories feature of the discussion board enables users to quickly locate and access specific types of posts, depending on their interest.

Category name Description
General Anything that does not fit the following nine categories.
Admin/Mod Dual-purposed, used both by staff as an announcement feature, as well as users as a place to ask wiki-related questions of the wiki's mods and admins.
Wiki Editing Questions and comments about editing pages on the wiki.
Opinions Personal opinions, including polls that ask for the opinion of others.
Fan Theories Theories that look ahead to future seasons, or ask "what if?" of previous seasons.
Fan Creations Artwork, fan-fiction, collages, original characters, and more.
Ships Posts about the "shipping" of two characters -- i.e. pairing them together in a relationship, usually with romantic undertones.
Spoilers Used in the weeks following the release of a new season, in order to give users a head's up that a post contains spoilers.
Images and Links Videos, articles, images of characters, or other links.
Official Off-Topic Threads (Staff Only) Only the wiki's official, monthly "Off-Topic Thread" will be posted here. Non-staff members may not categorize their own posts using this category.
