Sean Patrick Astin (born February 25, 1971) is an American actor who portrays Bob Newby in the second season of Stranger Things. Before Stranger Things, he was known for his portrayal of Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings films, Mikey Walsh in The Goonies, and the titular character in Rudy. He is also a voice actor, having voiced Raphael in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series, Oso in the Disney Junior show Special Agent Oso, and Chester The Cat in Bunnicula.

Trivia

• Besides being well-liked by the cast and crew, Astin was particularly close friends with Winona Ryder. The two were both former child actors and had nearly every scene together. Ryder was particularly unhappy to learn that Astin's character was being killed off, even texting complaints to Matt Duffer.
