...Scoops. Scoops Ahoy.

Scoops Ahoy was a nautical-themed ice cream parlor located in the food court of Starcourt Mall, whose employees wore costumes designed to resemble cartoonish sailor-suits.

Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley worked at Scoops until the Spider Monster and a fire destroyed the mall.

History[]

1985[]

Steve applied for the job at Scoops Ahoy in the summer of 1985, where he officially met Robin. He and Robin were in the same class at Hawkins High School, but they did not talk. The Party used Steve's new job to their advantage, since he would allow them to use the mall's back corridors to access the movie theater, without buying tickets.

When Dustin returned after a month at Camp Know Where, he went to Scoops Ahoy to ask Steve to help him translate a Russian broadcast that he picked up on Cerebro. Robin ended up helping them. They attempted for a whole day to translate the message. After they translated and decoded the broadcast, they learned that the Russians were delivering packages to a locked service door to the mall. Robin recruited Erica Sinclair to crawl into the air ducts of Starcourt and unlock the door. Erica agreed to help in exchange for free ice cream "for life". When they entered the room, they found a room that appeared to simply be storage for boxes delivered by the Russians. The room was actually a secret Russian elevator. The group (Erica, Steve, Robin, and Dustin), informally known as the "Scoops Troop", descended into a secret Russian base under Starcourt.

On July 4, 1985, Scoops Ahoy, alongside the entire Starcourt Mall, was burned by a fire started by fireworks in the battle against the proxy body of an interdimensional entity. Steve and Robin were later hired to work at Family Video because they lost their jobs due to the mall burning down.

Notes[]

  • It was likely that Scoops Ahoy was highly regarded in Starcourt, as suggested by a Stranger Things 3 Starcourt Mall promo.[1]
  • Baskin Robbins sold Scoops Ahoy ice cream quarts as a part of their Stranger Things sponsorship.
  • In the fourth season episode, "Dear Billy", Erica uses an old recycled Scoops Ahoy cup as a paint cup.
  • In late 2023, a Stranger Things-themed and branded ice cream, Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream, was made available in US stores.[2]
