Russell Coleman, portrayed by Tony Vaughn, is a recurring character in the first season and a minor character in the second season of Stranger Things. He was the principal of Hawkins Middle School in 1983 and 1984.

At some point, Mr. Coleman became principal of Hawkins Middle School.
1983[]
Mr. Coleman summoned students Mike, Lucas and Dustin at the request of local police chief Jim Hopper. In the principal's office, Mr. Coleman observed as Hopper questioned the boys about their missing friend Will Byers.
After Will was apparently discovered as deceased, Mr. Coleman held an assembly dedicated to the boy.
Mr. Coleman accompanied who appeared to be a repairman as he examined Mr Clarke's broken Heathkit.
1984[]
On 30th October, Mr. Coleman called out Will Byers amongst his friends and accompanied him to his mother Joyce Byers, who had come to the school to take him back for a physical exam.
