Surfer Boy Pizza used a customized VW Vanagon called the Pizzamobile to deliver pizzas to customers. In 1986, employee Argyle used his van to help his friend Jonathan Byers rescue Eleven, Jonathan's stepsister.[1]

History[]

Background[]

Some point after Argyle joined Surfer Boy Pizza, he acquired one of the custom vans for delivering pizzas to customers.

1985-1986[]

After the Byers family moved to Lenora Hills, California, Argyle used the Pizzamobile to give Jonathan Byers, Will Byers and Eleven rides to Lenora Hills High School.[2]

1986[]

Agents Harmon and Wallace ordered pizzas upon Jonathan's request. When Argyle reached the Byers house, it was under military attack. Jonathan, Will, their friend Mike Wheeler and Agent Harmon managed to escape into the Pizzamobile.[3] Harmon died in the van before he could be taken to St. Mary's Hospital.[4] Jonathan, Mike and Will figured out where Eleven was, using information provided by Agent Harmon and their friend Suzie Bingham; the Nina Project.[5] Upon driving to the Nina Project, they found Eleven.[6]

After Eleven bid farewell to a dying Dr. Martin Brenner,[6] they drove to a nearby gas station. There, after failing to get bus tickets to Hawkins, Indiana, they drove to another Surfer Boy Pizza restaurant to enact a plan to fight an evil in Hawkins. While there, they saw another Pizzamobile parked outside the restaurant.[7]

Later, Argyle drove the van to Hawkins.[7]

A different van was originally used for the Pizzamobile, and was completely decked out and made ready for filming; however, the production team eventually decided that the van's interior was a little bit too tight to allow for quality camera work. The team then switched to the VW Vanagon.

The Surfer Boy Pizza sign atop the van is an oversized, simplified version of a surfboard. It had lights fitted inside, giving directors the option to make the sign internally lit. The same logo is later visible on the Surfer Boy Pizza exterior featured in "The Piggyback".[1]
