Hawkins Chief of Police Jim Hopper drove a 1980 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, which was seemingly owned by the Hawkins Police Department. Hopper was apparently allowed not only to use this vehicle for official business, but for his personal everyday transport.

In July 1985, the vehicle partially exploded due to a malfunctioning engine, prompting Hopper to acquire another vehicle.

History[]

1983[]

At some point prior to November 1983, the Hawkins Police Department acquired the car and Hopper began to use it.

When Will Byers, the son of Hopper's old friend Joyce, went missing, Hopper used the car throughout much of his investigation.

Following Will's rescue, Hopper often drived out to the woods, where he would leave sustenance in a hidden box, in the off-chance Eleven was still out there; the two would ultimately cross paths, and Hopper provided for Eleven at his cabin while hiding her from Hawkins Lab.

1984[]

Hopper continued to use the car when investigating a strange rot decimating crops, eventually discovering a hidden series of tunnels beneath the earth.

1985[]

In 1985, Hopper and Joyce investigated an alarming Russian presence in Hawkins. The pair travelled to Hess Farm in Hopper's car, where they discovered a Soviet scientist named Dr. Alexei; however, this moment of discovery was interrupted by the Soviet's military operative, Grigori. Hopper and Joyce escaped Grigori's wrath, taking Dr. Alexei as their hostage, but were shot at by Grigori as they drove away, severely damaging the car's engine.

Later, the vehicle partially exploded due to the damaged engine, prompting Hopper, Joyce and Alexei to acquire another vehicle.

Trivia[]

Hopper's car is inspired by Chief Brody's car in Jaws.[1]
