Hawkins Middle AV Club was the audiovisual club at Hawkins Middle School. It was run under the supervision of science teacher Scott Clarke through the efforts of Bob Newby, who proposed the idea and had a fundraiser for all the equipment.
History[]
Background[]
The AV Club was founded by Bob Newby, with Scott Clarke being one of its first members. By 1983, Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair and Will Byers joined the AV Club.
1983[]
After Will went missing, Mike, Lucas and Dustin unwittingly crossed paths with Eleven, a girl with psychokinetic abilities who had escaped from Hawkins Lab. They took Eleven to the AV Club's Heathkit Ham Shack, where Eleven used her abilities to transmit Will's voice through the radio. However, Eleven's power pushed to the radio to its limit, setting it aflame and heavily damaging it.
Unbeknownst to the boys, Hawkins Lab had intercepted and recorded the radio transmissions. Later, at the lab's monitoring room, Brenner listened back to the recordings, hearing Mike, Lucas and Dustin's voices. That same day, one of Brenner's agents, pretending to be a repairman from Hawkins Power and Light, inspected the burned ham radio. While there, the principal told him the radio belonged to Scott Clarke.
The next day, another agent, Connie Frazier, visited Scott Clarke at his residence, hoping to coax out details about the operators of the ham radio. While there, she told Clarke about a fictitious Indiana AV Club program, complete with a falsified flier. When asked if he knew anyone who'd want to participate, Clarke told her about Mike, Lucas, and Dustin.
1984[]
After Bob was killed, a saddened Mike informed his friends that Bob was the founder of the AV Club.
Later that year, Max Mayfield, who had befriended Will, Dustin and Lucas, joined the AV Club, and became a formal member of the Party.
Description[]
Besides being best friends, the four kids: Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will were also the members of the Hawkins Middle AV Club. Max Mayfield later joined the AV Club after moving to Hawkins and befriending the boys.[1]
Alongside practical purposes, they used the AV room to confer important but discreet discussions among themselves, such as a supernatural issue involving Will.
