Between 1986 and 1987, Dr. Kay and her Wolf Pack paramilitaries established a military base and laboratory at Gable Ridge Road, in the Upside Down's version of Hawkins. After learning of the base's existence, Jim Hopper dubbed it "Gable Ridge Road Base".[1]

Background[]
After the opening of four gates that destroyed almost of Hawkins on March 27, 1986, Indiana, the military led by Dr. Kay and Jack Sullivan occupied the town and put its citizens under quarantine. During the military's occupation, Kay built a secret facility within the Upside Down so she could study and experiment on the realm's ecosystem and creatures while she had Sullivan hunt for Eleven.

Kay and her subordinates are shown using the base to study the biomass present in the Upside Down. Kali was also housed here, with her blood being infused with pregnant women to attempt to create new psychic test subjects.
The base was destroyed during the collapse of the Upside Down on November 6.
Trivia[]
- The base is the only location in the show to have been built in the Upside Down as it does not exist in the real world.
- It is also the only known permanent human settlement in the Upside Down.
