Devices[]

Camcorder[]

ST-Camcoder

Bob's Video Camcorder

Bob Newby had a JVC GR-C1 camcorder which he lent to Jonathan who then lent to Will to film trick-or-treating with his friends. While filming, however, Will briefly experienced a vision encountering a shadow creature, causing interference. Fortunately, the interference from the tape helped Joyce deduce that Will was experiencing another episode.

The Elephant[]

The Elephant

"The Elephant" was a Soviet torture device. It consisted of a gray-colored gas mask attached to a long breathing tube, giving it a somewhat elephant-like appearance. The breathing tube could be squeezed, depriving the Elephant-wearing captive of oxygen.

Following Hopper's capture by the Soviets, an officer interrogated him. Growing frustrated with Hopper's refusal to identify Joyce Byers, he ordered his men to subject Hopper to the Elephant.

Electrode Cap[]

Electrode Cap

In Hawkins Lab and Nina Project experiments, Eleven's scalp is fitted with an electrode cap. These caps affix electrodes to the scalp, allowing for measurement of bio-electrical activity within the brain.

Forever Clock[]

Forever Clock

The Forever Clock

The Forever Clock is a miniature windmill invented by Dustin during his time at Camp Know Where.

Metal Detector[]

Murray created a metal detector at some point and kept it in his warehouse. He used this metal detector to scan Dr. Alexei when Hopper and Joyce Byers brought him to Murray's warehouse, because according to Murray, Alexei is "an enemy of the state".

The Slammer[]

Slammer

The Slammer

The Slammer is an automatic hammer invented by Dustin during his time at Camp Know Where.

The Lighter[]

A particular lighter, owned by Steve Harrington, is seen in both Season 1 & 2. It is first shown being used by Harrington during his own house party to light his cigarettes in Season 1 Episode 2. Later on in Season 2 Episode 9, Harrington uses the same lighter to set alight the tunnel system that had formed under Hawkins.

Supercoms[]

ST-Supercom

Eleven finds Mike's Supercom

Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair and Will Byers each owned a walkie-talkie to maintain contact with each other. These walkie-talkies, also referred to as Supercoms, are reminiscent to the Radio Shack's Realistic TRC-214 brands.

Following Will's disappearance, Mike planned with his friends via the Supercom to search for him. After Eleven channeled Will's voice via Mike's Supercom, Mike and his friends concluded that Will was still alive in the other dimension. As the kids get tracked by the agents of Hawkins National Laboratory, Chief Jim Hopper contacted the kids using Will's Supercom and helped them escape. Later, when Eleven disappeared for a time after a showdown with a mysterious monster, Mike attempted to contact her every night with his Supercom.

In 1985, both Eleven and Max Mayfield got their own Supercoms that they used to chat with each other and the boys. However, Dustin could not get in touch with his friends and neither of his friends could get in touch with him, as Dustin had discovered a Russian base underneath Starcourt Mall. When Dustin finally managed to get in touch with Mike, the batteries on his Supercom died, but his friends managed to get to Starcourt, saving him, Steve Harrington, Robin Buckley, and Erica Sinclair from the Russians. Later, Hopper and Murray Bauman also got Supercoms during the battle of Starcourt.

Transportation[]

Dustin's Bike[]

In 1983, Dustin had a bike that he used for transportation, such as riding from home to school. In 1984, Dustin continued riding the bike.

Lucas's Bike[]

In 1983, Lucas had a bike that he used for transportation, such as riding from home to school. In 1984, Lucas continued riding the bike.

Max's Skateboards[]

Max's Skateboard

Max's skateboard

Max had a skateboard that she would use to travel to places. Her stepbrother, Billy Hargrove, later broke Max's skateboard in retaliation for being with Lucas Sinclair, though Max attempted to fix it with duct tape.

In 1985, Max appears to have gotten a new skateboard, presumably to replace her old one.

Mike's Bike[]

In 1983, Mike had a bike that he used for transportation, such as riding from home to school. The seating was also big enough to allow another person to ride on the bike. Eleven rode with Mike on his bike as they searched for Will Byers and to escape from Martin Brenner and the government agents. In 1984, Mike continued riding the bike.

Mike's New Bike[]

In 1985, Mike obtained a steel drop bar bike, which he got because his old bike was too small for him.

Robin's Bike[]

In 1985, Robin had a bike that she used for transportation, such as riding to the Starcourt Mall to work at her job at Scoops Ahoy. She also used the bike to travel to Hawkins Town Hall in order to obtain the blueprints for Starcourt Mall.

Will's Bike[]

In 1983, Will had a bike that he used for transportation, such as riding from home to school. While riding home from Mike's house, he was startled when he saw a shadowy figure near Mirkwood and he fell off his bike. Unfortunately, Will was abducted by a monster while attempting to hide in his backyard shed and brought to the Upside Down. Chief Hopper found his abandoned bike the next day and eventually helped Will's mother Joyce Byers rescue him from the Upside Down. In 1984, Will continued riding the bike.

Weapons[]

Flamethrower[]

Scientists set the tendrils ablaze with flamethrower

A scientist holding a flamethrower.

In 1984, scientists at the Hawkins National Laboratory used flamethrowers to burn vines coming out of the Mothergate, and thus containing the Upside Down's spread.

On March 26, 1986, as Yuri Ismaylov showed Joyce Byers and Murray Bauman his warehouse, he mentioned having a flamethrower. The next day, after discovering Hawkins to be in danger, Jim Hopper got a hold of the flamethrower and took it with him to accompany Joyce and Murray to the Russian prison where he was held captive, in order to kill a piece of the Mind Flayer.

When Joyce and Hopper were cornered by Russian Demogorgon and possessed Demodogs, Murray used the flamethrower to burn the Demogorgon and Demodogs alive, injuring Vecna and killing the Demobats, saving Steve, Nancy, and Robin in the process. The Demodogs were killed and the Russian Demogorgon was severely weakened.

Fireworks[]

S03E08-Mind Flayer pelted by fireworks

The Spider Monster attacked by fireworks.

On July 4, 1985, Lucas Sinclair and Will Byers stole fireworks from Bradley's Big Buy to help Eleven fight the Spider Monster after she was injured. They proved to be useful as the fireworks managed to save Eleven and injure the Spider Monster before Billy Hargrove allowed himself to be killed by the Spider Monster. Presumably, the fireworks started the fire which burned down Starcourt Mall and possibly the Starcourt Base.

Taser Prod[]

In 1985, when Dustin Henderson and Erica Sinclair were sneaking around the Starcourt Base, they found a taser prod along with a cart, which they used during their escape. These prods were presumably used to control Demodogs extracted from the Starcourt gate. Dustin later used the taser on Dr. Zharkov, killing him.

In 1986, Joyce Byers used a taser prod to kill a demodog at the gulag in Kamchatka, saving the life of Jim Hopper.

Wrist-Rocket[]

Ep8-Lucas3

Lucas using the Wrist-Rocket.

Lucas had a Wrist-Rocket slingshot. Lucas would use the Wrist-Rocket to fight enemies or protect his friends. In 1983, Lucas tried using the Wrist-Rocket against the Demogorgon, but it had no effect against the monster.

In 1985, the Wrist-Rocket finally proved to be useful to Lucas. He used it to save his girlfriend, Max from her Flayed stepbrother, Billy, and to keep the Mind Flayer from finding and killing his friends.

Trivia[]

  • The Realistic TRC-214 brand wasn't available until 1985, even though they were used by the show's protagonists in 1983.[1]
