Eh, for me it is a yes and no. You have to remember, the boy was stuck in the upside down for weeks if not months. Then later he was possessed by the mind flayer. So in a way, yes I can see why he acts childish seeing that he barley got to play games with his friends due to him being stuck with the mind flayer for half of his life. So in a way he basically sticks to the past and he sticks to his childhood.
