And honestly being wary of El in the beginning was warranted because they had no idea who she was or what she could do. Lucas is usually just the most level-headed and for some reason that gets him a lot of hate.
I agree, I don’t think he should be included in polls and discussions over mothers or even parents, in general. He’s a mentor, sure, but it’s not the same.
That’s totally valid of her, too, because your own safety is so important, but as a mother she has the responsibility of putting Max’s safety before her own, and since she’s Billy’s stepmother, his safety before her own, as well. But it is a really tricky situation, I still commend her as a mother, though.
Honestly, I think the main reason people look over Lucas (and Erica, as well as other Black/POC characters) is because he is Black. It’s unfortunate and sad, but that is the case for most characters who are of color.
Susan is okay, but not my favorite. I agree with the points you made about her doing what she can to support Max, but she also married a man was abusive to his son, and that same son was abusive to Max, so in comparison to all the other moms we see in the show, Susan isn’t my favorite.
I think to the people calling Steve the “best mom”, majority don’t mean that seriously, it’s more of a funny gag or a running joke.
Like above I said that Steve was a mom to Dustin, but in seriousness it’s more brotherly. As far as the gag goes though Steve is motherly to Dustin and the rest of the party, but obviously a character like Joyce is a much better mother/mother-figure. I can see how calling Steve the “best mom” can seem sexist, but in the context of the joke, it’s just a joke.
@Maneskinfan Who would you say the best mom in the show is then? I can’t really think of a time where Joyce lied to Jonathan or Will that it wasn’t justified.
Billy definitely gets too much sympathy considering all the things he did before he was flayed. (The things flayed Billy did weren't up to him) But I agree with @Paxte 's point that many other characters in the show were just as, if not more, traumatized as Billy and did not resort to the things Billy did before his flaying. Billy being a traumatized teenager is an explanation for his behavior, not an excuse.
That being said I don't think Billy deserved to be flayed/die because at the end of the day he was just a teenager and still had the opportunity later in his life to make better decisions and make some sort of mends for the wrongs he did.
But as for the Billy we knew in Season 2 and from context of his character before he was seen in the show he was a horrible bully/racist who had the ability to be better than his father was to him, yet chose not to.
I think more fans would dislike him if he wasn't attractive because every Billy apologist I have encountered excuses his behavior just because they consider him hot. I also think more fans would find him at least tolerable if he weren't racist, but even without the racism he's a bad person.
Without the racism he's still a bad person. Without the looks he's still a racist and an overall bad person.
I think they will and should break up. I agree with @MangoCheeseRavenclawGarrowsonShadeslayer that Mike's confessions of love are always out of convience and why that certainly is in part due to his family's emotional disfunction, it is also just a scapegoat. Mike and El are great together, just not romantically. And to @Maneskinfan 's point, as a couple they are very toxic, yet they keep getting back together for convience and routine's sake.
Max just waking up from the coma I think is most likely and what I hope the writers go with for her character. I don't think they would kill her after El went through all the trouble of saving/reviving her and just keeping her in a coma is basically the same as killing her because then she's just an expensive prop. Having Max wake up with superpowers would be tacky, in my opinion, because that's what makes El so special and valuable, because there's no one like her. (And I'm not really sure how they could justify giving her powers just because she was in a coma) Also, having Max forget everything I think would also be a waste of time, just because she would have to have everything reexplained to her before the end of the season, which feels redundant. I don't know if there are any other options for her character besides whats listed, but I'm interested to know what other theories could be!
Babysitter to El, Lucas, Max, Mike, Will but Mom to Dustin.
Personally, I think it was a good episode, but it feels lost in the mix of the other Season 2 episodes. While it obviously contributes to the overall plot and El as a character, I think it wasn't absolutely necessary and that's why a lot of people didn't like the episode. Most fans feel it's just random.
For me, I appreciated the episode a lot more after reading Suspicious Minds, because that book does include many scenes of Kali. I know not everything from the companion books are accurate but for the information that does fit, it's very interesting.
I'm excited for Kali's return, though! Linnea Berthelsen did a fantastic job portraying her.
@Adam2411 I have no idea either.
@Adam2411 I haven’t heard about Hyler in awhile, but I remember from a couple years ago and always thought she was a bit obsessive.
@Adam2411 What’s that situation?
As far as figuring out how to defeat the evil (I haven't seen either AQP movies so I'm not entirely sure what I'm talking about) I think they could do it as a team, but I know they have to be quiet - hence the title - and the only characters capable of that I think would be El and Will, since everyone yells so much.
While their plotline did contribute in important ways to the more main plotlines, I was always a tad bored when they came on screen and in the main scheme of things was irrelevent.
I think it's most likely just a mistake in writing and later information put out. Though El having a younger sister would be interesting, it doesn't make much sense given the details we have about Terry Ives.
