A little meme in the honor of my friend and my strobing light blindness :)
If your wondering, Strobing Lights don't hurt me. I just can't handle craziness of lights everywhere.

Here it is :D
1983.
The year my life changed.
And let me just say, not for the better.
It was about 10 am when I biked to my best friend Mike's house. When I got there, Dustin and Lucas, my friends, were already there. They lived closer to Mike, but I lived a little bit farther into the woods in an oldish house with my mom and brother.
I parked my bike and knocked at the door. Mike's mom opened the door and smiled.
“Hello Will,” Mike’s mom looked behind her, “The boys are downstairs waiting for you,”
I said thanks and went inside. I passed Mike's dad, who was once again sitting on the couch watching tv. I sprinted down the stairs. Dustin, Lucas, and Mike all turned and grinned.
“Will!” Mike smiled, “We were just getting ready to start!”
***
“It’s not the demogorgon!” Lucas says, leaning back in his seat.
Mike waits a few seconds for dramatic effect. The few seconds of silence kill me, as I wait to find out if it's the demogorgon.
“An army of Troglodytes charge into the chamber!” Mike puts force into his words and slams six winged miniatures onto the map. “Their tail drums the floor! Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Dustin looks shocked.
“Troglodytes?!”
“Told ya!” Lucas said.
“Easy!”
Mike’s eyes grow wide as he looks over his shoulder.
“Wait…Do you hear that? Boom! Boom! Boom! That sound didn’t come from the Troglodytes. No! It came from something behind them…The Demogorgon!” Mike slams the miniature onto the map with satisfaction.
Lucas throws his hands up and exclaims, “We're all gonna die!”
Mike turns to me, “Will! Your action?”
I think, wishing it wasn’t my turn. I couldn’t think. Lucas and Dustin were both telling me different things. Should I cast a fireball? Or should I cast a protection spell?
“I…uh…dunno?!” “Fireball him!” Lucas says. Dustin tries to fight it.
I turn to Lucas, “But then I’d have to roll a 13 or higher,”
Dustin speaks, “Too risky. Cast a protection spell.”
Lucas faces Dustin, “Don’t be a p*ssy, Fireball him!”
Mike starts talking, his voice booming: “The demogorgon is tired of your silly human bickering, it steps closer to you. Boom!”
“Fireball him, Will!”
“Another step…BOOM!”
“Cast protection!”
“It roars in anger!”
“Fireball!”
“Protection”
I was in over my head. People were shouting at me from every angle. I looked around and just said the first thing that popped into my head.
“Fireball!”
I roll the dice.
Oops. Too hard.
The dice fly across the table and onto the ground. Everyone rushes to find it. I look under the table. It couldn’t have gotten too far…
Then the basement door swings open. At the top of the stairs is Mike’s mom.
“Mom! We're in the middle of a campaign.”
She taps her watch, “You mean the end? 15 after.”
Mike runs upstairs, chasing her yelling, “Just 20 more minutes?”
I look and try to find the dice.
I see something shiny on the ground and pick it up to see the dice.
“Does a seven count?” I ask, turning to my friends.
“It was a seven?”
I nod.
“Did Mike see it?”
I shake my head.
“Then it doesn’t count!”
Dustin runs upstairs to Mike’s sister, Nancy’s room to offer her pizza.
When we all regroup, we all go to the garage to get our bikes. Dustin is complaining about how mean Nancy was.
“She used to be nice, remember when she dressed up for our elven complain?” Dustin was saying.
“Yeah, Four years ago!”
Lucas and Dustin speed off. I stayed there with Mike for a couple of seconds.
“It was a 7,” I said.
“Huh?” Mike said, facing me.
“It was a 7. The demogorgon. It got me.” I smiled sadly. Mike frowned a little. I got onto my bike and pedaled. The light flickered on the garage, but Mike turned them off. I caught up with Lucas and Dustin.
A couple seconds later, Lucas goes into his driveway.
“See ya later, ladies,”
Dustin and I ride in silence for a few seconds, then Dustin says, “Race to my place? Winner gets a comic.”
I perk up, “Any comic?”
“Yeah.”
That's all I have to hear. I start pedaling faster and faster. Dustin swears from behind me. I fly past his house.
“I’ll take your X-Men Uncanny two- six-nine!” I yell. Dustin swears again and goes into his driveway.
Then, it's just me. Driving my bike alone. That might seem dumb, but it was normal. I knew my brother, Jonathan was waiting for me. The moon hung above the forest, giving me some more light. I kept driving, then suddenly my bike light flickered. I looked at it confused, then looked up.
I gasped.
There was a tall figure. I swerved out of the way and into the ditch. I was scared. I went down a hill and crashed.
I got onto my hands and knees and spit out the dirt in my mouth. I gasp for air, then hear a strange noise from behind me. Fearful, I leave my bike there and run off.
I ran up a path to my house. I’m tired, but I won't stop. I get confused when the lights are off. I slam open the door.
“MOM?! JOHNATHAN?!” I yelled. There was no answer. I check around.
No one was home. I felt fear get into my chest, I felt like I was going to explode with it. I peer out the window and feel the air get sucked out of me.
The figure is out there. It followed me.
I ran to the phone and put it to my ear.
I dialed 9-1-1. All I heard was static.
“Hello?” I asked, fear in my voice strong. Then I heard something.
It wasn’t a person.
I pushed the phone away in fear. I heard the door creak. My eyes widened. The lock was slowly opening by itself. The figure was blurry through the door window. I stumbled back and ran. I slammed open the back door and ran to the wooden shed out back.
I slam the door behind me and my eyes search the walls until I found what I needed. I pulled the rifle from the wall and got bullets. I started loading it. Then I heard a noise. I raise the gun up, getting ready to shoot.
Then I realized.
Whatever was chasing me…
Was behind me.
Mike in seasons 1 and 2 (didn’t really notice it in 3 and 4) covers his ears when he’s scared. I WOULD DIE IF HE DID IT AGAIN IN SEASON 5 PLEASE 😭😭😭
Season 1: Fall 1983 (concludes in winter)
Season 2: Fall 1984 (concludes in winter)
Season 3: Summer 1985 (concludes in fall)
Season 4: Spring 1986 (concludes still in spring)
I wonder if season 5 will possibly take place during winter 1987 or 1988? Maybe not, but interesting to think about.
