Joyce Byers

My opinion: She's okay I guess. But I didn't like her in season1 otherwise she's a good character.

Note- I have tried to make this post as neutral as possible without picking sides. As you might infer from my username, I am a Byler shipper however I have taken some help from some of my Mileven friends in order to gather evidence for their ship. Please do not start a fight and be kind. This is purely my opinion and it’s ok if you have others.

1.In favour of a Mileven endgame-

Why would the Duffers make a traumatised boy like his best friend for 2 seasons only for a Mileven endgame?

Here are my points-

I) The Duffers have emphasised on the fact that Will is going to be a major part of season 5 (finally). Going along with the path that they have chosen for the last few seasons, it would be plausible for Will’s storyline to consist of lot of angst and drama this season.

With many suspecting the connection between Vecna and Will might be greater for the finale, it would make sense for him to torment Will about his insecurities about Mike. This will probably be made greater given the fact that Eleven and Mike date again.

This might also release some inner anger from Will and give way to a possible villain arc. Will could team up with Vecna, since it had been hinted in Season 4 that Will and Vecna had a lot of similarities as a child. Mileven happening could be an awakening to a villain arc and unleash a lot of possible character development.

As for Mike, we might see him in the final season trying to figure out his feelings for Eleven. While he couldn’t say ‘love’ in the majority of season 4 to Eleven, it could be interesting for him to figure out himself and find the inner meaning of the word.

Also, the Duffers have said that they would focus on the plot this season. They said that they wanted to reduce screen time and really focus on the original aspects of stranger things. This could mean that they can’t give enough screen time to two love triangles (Stancy, Jancy and Byler,Mileven). So they just might go with the easier route and make Mileven endgame in order to cut screen time.

However, even if Mileven is made to be endgame, I do think that Will will have a sort of confession scene to Mike. Mike can either choose to accept the feelings or he could reject the feelings for Will to grow depressed again.

Do I think that Mileven could be endgame? Maybe? If set right by the Duffers, it could be a satisfying ending to the series. Even though I do prefer Byler, I am going to be alright if Mileven is made endgame.

This is in favour of a Byler endgame-

Why would the Duffers make Mileven a canon ship for 4 seasons only for Byler to be endgame?

Here are my points-

One of the main reasons why fans love the show so much is because we get to see characters grow and develop into mature human beings. For example, in season 4, we saw Max trying to cope up with the fact that Billy is dead.

With that in mind, it would make sense for the final season to conclude with Eleven figuring out who she really is as a person.

In season 3, Eleven didn’t know that she could have her own preferences and like whatever she wants to. She didn’t know that she could choose and like her own clothes, nevertheless that she could like the boy that she wanted.

Max was the person who showed Eleven how to live a life without boys. She also looked a little bit free and happier with her surroundings after she broke up with Mike in season 3. Mike also doesn’t seem to treat Eleven the way that she wants him too.

As for Mike, it’s evident that he doesn’t really know how to reciprocate his feelings for Eleven. After seeing his parents, he knows the impact of the word ‘love’ and he doesn’t really know if he’s ready to tell Eleven that yet. With the whole show being set in the 80’s, it would be interesting to see how Mike would react to his feelings (if he has any) towards Will. Maybe an ally (Robin or Vickie) could help Mike figure out his feelings.

While I’m not saying that Mileven is toxic, it’s definitely good for both Mike and Eleven if they take a break from dating. Eleven definitely needs some time on her own to understand the world and find her independence before getting into a relationship. Mike needs some time to define his relationship towards Eleven and Will.

And I’m not saying that Byler is going to be any better. Will already has a broken heart due to seeing his best friend/crush replace him with a girl that he had known for one week. While his broken heart might be fixed if Byler happens, I kind of get the toxicity vibes from Mike( in a way ig?). But Mike definitely needs a person who he could depend on and that person could be Will.

I don’t think that Byler is going to be a full-blown relationship due to the restrictions in the 1980’s and screen time in Season 5. We probably would have a coming out scene where Will tells about his sexuality to few close people like Jonathan, Joyce and Hopper.

Do I think that Byler is going to be endgame? As much as I hate to admit it as a Byler shipper, the chances are pretty slim( 15%?). And then again I don’t think that Mileven is going to be endgame either. I think that the Duffers are going to make neither endgame.

Whatever the Duffers do though, I hope that they give a satisfactory ending to this wonderful series!

What are your opinions on what ship is going to be endgame?

Well.. It's been over 2 years since I've been on this fandom and I've had this in my drafts for a long time so I just thought.... why not post it?

Note- I know that these are really "unagreeable" opinions but these are mine... feel free to have your own !!!

1.Jancy and Stancy both suck, but Jancy is slightly better- Both ships have their pros and cons and are both slightly toxic. However, in my opinion, Jancy is slightly better and has more chemistry. If it were up to me, I would make none of the ships endgame and make the three characters single for the final season.

2.Jason and Angela are highly overhated- Ok, I get it, Angela was super rude and has no mercy for Eleven. But at the end of the day, she is just one of the many school bullies present in the 80’s. She has no idea of how her bullying affects Eleven and how much trauma Eleven had faced. Sure, Eleven was treated unfairly and deserved better, but do you really think sending death threats to the actress that played Angela was a good option?

Jason was a pretty unlikeable character, however his actions were justified. Wouldn’t it be weird if your significant other died in somebody else’s house? And at night? I mean, maybe Jason shouldn’t have hunted down Eddie, however he did not know as much information that we know. He did not know about the upside down and Vecna. Jason also didn’t step on Max’s Walkman on purpose, and even if he did, he wouldn’t know the consequences. So let’s cut some slack from these characters.

3. Billy is highly overrated- Many people excuse Billy for his bad actions due to the fact that he got abused as a kid. But that doesn’t change the fact that he was racist, abusive and violent. At the end of the day, he was a really bad character who made some horrible mistakes.

If we take for example Johnathan, he was also abused as a child by his father Lonnie as a child. He also had to suffer with the pain of nearly losing his brother and with the pain of getting treated like an outsider. But Jonathan is the complete opposite of Billy. Jonathan is arguably way better and nicer.

So, because Billy was abused doesn’t change the fact that he was an evil character. But he did get his chance to redeem himself at the end of season 3, and he took it.

5. Suzies is not responsible for Billy’s death and Hopper's death’.- Literally I have no comments on this one…. I will forever be a Suzie fan!!

6. Bob and Joyce were better than Hopper and Joyce- Well… I already know that I’m gonna get hate for this.. I just love Bob and the actor tbh

7. Steve has a good arc... but he's overrated- Yep I already know that all the Steve stans are about to dox me but it's my opinion. I never really got the hype abt Steve and I don't think I will. IMO Jonathan was always better.

8. It isn't reasonable to connect the character with the actor/actress- Well I think we all know what I'm talking about..... I won't go in detail but I think that it's wrong to hate the characters for something that the actor did... just my opinion !!

Have you guys seen this parody of Stranger Things? It's from the reboot of All That, that Nickelodeon series. I think they did a very good job, they really nailed Joyce.

2 weeks later

“Wait, so go over it one more time.” says Karen Wheeler. Hopper rolled his eyes.

“So, as we said before, there was a greater force behind everything these past few years.” Owens replied. Eleven got up and walked out of the room where the officers and parents were sitting. She walked into Mike and Dustin sat arguing about whether or not somebody could solve a Rubix cube in under 10 minutes. “Hi El,” Max smiled at her best friend. She and Lucas were practising walking again, Max still wasn’t as sturdy as before, El flashed her a quick smile and sat down on the couch. “They still talking?” Lucas asked. El nodded, Hopper,Joyce and Dr Owens were explaining to the others’ parents and Officers Powell and Callahan. “It’s so stupid that they can’t understand,” Erica complained. “I’m so bored”. “You are literally just a younger version of Rob…” Dustin trailed off. Steve grimaced,

“hey, you’ve got that date with that new girl on Friday”. Steve smiled thinking about his new girl, he and Robin used to discuss their dates, now instead he and Vickie would spend time discussing everything brilliant about Robin, they both missed her so much.

The scene cuts, at the same time, Nancy kisses Jonathan’s cheek. “I’m here for you” she started. Jonathan smiled at her. “I know,just stay in the car”. Jonathan walked into the decrepit house previously owned by the Byers. He walked into what used to be Will’s room. “Hey buddy” he began “I’m still thinking about you, I love you.” You remember what Mike said to El a couple years ago, well, you’re my superhero buddy” he smiled sadly. “I just wanted you to have this, it’s got all the new hits.” A tear dribbled down his cheek,and landed on the hardwood floor, he placed the mixtape on the boy's bed solemnly. He walked over to the doorway. “Oh and, your secret, it’s safe with me ok?”. Jonathan walked back into the car where Nancy pulled him into a warm hug. He sobs silently into her shoulder.

Flash forward.

Mike scratches at the itchy suit and tie. “Stop scratching, it only makes it worse” Lucas told him. Mike rolled his eyes.

“You think yours is bad, I do NOT like this” Max said aggressively. Tugging at her dress, it was red and frilly.

“Shut up all of you!” Dustin yelled. “LOOK!”

The doors flew open and Joyce walked down, she was cloaked in a long flowing white gown followed by Eleven, wearing a similar outfit, except accompanied by a glowing red face. Hopper stood at the front, eyes brimmed with tears. “I told you, you're not the curse American” Dmitri whispered from the back, proud of his friend. Joyce reached the front where Hopper told her how beautiful she looked. She grinned at him. There were spaces everywhere for all the people that had to sacrifice themselves in this fight;Bob, Alexei, Eddie, Murray, Robin, Will. “Byers, Byers, you’re up” Argyle said, nudging the ring bearer. “Uhh” Jonathan responded, Argyle pushed him forward. Jonathan presented the rings to the both of them. “Do you James Hopper, take Joyce Byers to be your lawfully wedded wife” the priest said.

“I do” Hopper grinned

“Do you Joyce Byers, take James Hopper to be your lawfully wedded husband”.

“I do.” the petite woman answered.

“Then I now pronounce you husband and wife”. Everyone cheered loudly. Hopper and Joyce kissed in a warm embrace.

“So smooth stalker” Max laughed watching her boyfriend’s attempt at dancing.

“What?” Lucas laughed. “Am I not good enough, you wanna come show us how it’s done MadMax?”

“Whooo” cheered Dustin who was clinging to Suzie . Max laughed and got up to dance with her boyfriend. In the corner Jonathan and Nancy were slow dancing despite the speed of the song playing.”You know,this means you’re getting a sister right” Nancy teased.

“So?” Jonathan asked.

“You’re have to learn how to do hair and do her makeup and ALL the other girly things she wants” Nancy laughed at her own comments

“Nancy,” Jonathan laughed back.

Steve watched on enviously, “cheer up Steve” Mike told him, Eleven was in his arms. “Hey Wheeler” Steve remarked to the young man, “you and your girl look happy”

“Happy” Eleven confirmed. Steve smiled at her. The music changed to a slower song, “you’d better get out there Wheeler, it’s now or never” Steve said. Mike looked at El, who smiled back at him, they ran off to the dance floor. Max and Lucas considered changing their dance. “We make our own rules” Lucas shrugged. Max grinned at him “own rules” she confirmed. The two continued their laugh and dance while Dustin pulled Suzie up. “Gosh I love you Dusty Bun” she grinned

“I love you more Suzie poo” Dustin smiled. In the centre of the hall Joyce and Hopper danced together steadily. Each of the couples leaned closer and closer until they all finally kissed. “I love you eleven” the red faced teen finally confessed aloud. Eleven's eyes widened with the words she’s been wanting to hear for years now. “I love you too, Mike” Eleven returned the symbol of affection and the two continued their dance, excited about what was next and glad what had came before was finally over

My favorite Joyce line is "Who are you calling? The police?"

Lucas is hyper observant(look it up if you don’t know, or watch Psych) and he’s only told Max about it.

So I was just randomly thinking like which actor/actresses would I have still known (actually watched) if I didn't watch Stranger Things

So here it is-

Millie- Definitely because Enola Holmes and the Godzilla movies

Finn- For sure because It <3 and probably the Ghostbuster Afterlife (though I still have to watch it)

Noah- No question about it. Hubie Halloween and even just because the iconic LA Devotee video by Panic! at the Disco

Gaten- Yeah a bit. I watched Honor Society

Caleb- probably not tbh. I have no idea what else he is in

Sadie- Absolutely, Fear Street and the All Too Well short film <3

Joe- Yes. Free guy. (I love that movie)

Maya- Yes, Also Fear Street

Natalia- i dont think so. I don't really know what she is in either

Joseph- Um idk i have his movies on my list that is pretty long but I will get to it

Dacre- Yeah I had to the theaters to watch Power Rangers because it was my dads favorite thing growing up and like I never knew it was Billy until like 2020

Winona- Who wouldn't know her. Edward Scissorhands alone was amazing but like even just like Beetlejuice, Mr. Deeds, Like you are crazy if you don't know her

David- probably. just from the ads for Hellboy and my brother actually wanted to watch Violent Night

Jamie- I freaked out when I saw him in the show, I love him so much. Twilight, Harry Potter, Mortal Instruments, Sweeney Todd like come on I have been watching him since I was a child

Brett- Yes. I love Metal Lords (which I watched because it was Jaeden)

I know this doesnt really relate much but the way I started this was by wondering if I would have still known Bill Skarsgard if I hadn't watched It

And yeah I would, i would have watched Devil All the Time for Robert Pattinson (idc about most of the others but maybe Tom Holland) and since my parents are big fans of John Wick so and my sister is a big Divergent fan. And then also because I like Deadpool. So like I am just realizing I know him for quite a bit

Anyways I would like to hear what you guys all know them for:)

1. Jancy and Stancy both suck, but Jancy is slightly better.

'Pick me Girl' vibes in season 3 with Mike.

8. Nancy is a bad person when it comes to relationships.

9. Barb's and Alexai's death was over-hyped and Bob's death deserved more attention.

10. I actually liked Bob and Joyce together and it was really sad for me when Bob died.

11.Mileven is starting to turn toxic. If Mike can't say 'I Love You' , then Eleven has the full authority to break up with him.

12.Will's bowl cut isn't REALLY bad. Just maybe in season 5 make it a little bit more fluffier, shaggier or longer. Or just make Will have Noah's hair to play it safe. I'm telling you, Noah Schnapp is one of the only people in the cast that can rock the bowl cut.
