I wouldn’t call Jason a villain I would call him a misunderstood semi antogonist
The results of this poll concern me. I’m sorry, but it should be 100% Billy. That man was racist and abusive and tried to murder a group of children. Jason did everything he did to avenge Chrissy, and even then, most of his actions were still justifiable. Eddie seemed to be absolutely obsessed with antagonizing people to drag attention towards himself - it’s really no wonder that Jason didn’t like him already. I will always stand by my claim that Jason is extremely overhated and a real hero. What I don’t understand at all is people crying at the death of a racist abuser and then laughing at the death of a guy who was just trying to do the right thing and honor the girl that he loved. It’s genuinely upsetting.
Also, let’s not forget to mention Mason Dye literally getting death threats just for ACTING as a character on-screen. Dacre Montgomery didn’t get that because apparently not being hot is an excuse for cyber bullying. Truly disgusting.
Personally, I think Jason is hotter than Billy.
^^^ Awesome insights, guys! 🙌🏼 I’ll add some of my thoughts:
I’m extremely relieved that a majority of you regard Jason as being incredibly overhated and grossly misunderstood, because there has never been a more truthful statement.
A lot of people label Jason as being irrational in his pursuits, but I don’t think many people consider all of the different factors at play. Firstly—the mass hysteria described by Jason revolving around satanic cults, worship, and possession relating to Dungeons and Dragons is based off of REAL LIFE EVENTS that occurred in the 1980s. The Duffer Brothers weren’t making this stuff up. There really WAS mass hysteria around this roleplaying game in the 1980s. I commend the Duffer Brothers for taking this notable mass hysteria during the 1980s and shaping it in their own way through the form of Jason Carver in S4. I bring this up because it’s important to note that Jason wasn’t just grasping at straws or going crazy as he theorized that a satanic cult was behind Chrissy’s death—he was just one of millions of people during that time who believed that satanic cults played DND. It was a very real fear that people had, but it seems most fans fail to recognize this and dismiss Jason Carver as being unhinged.
And take a walk through Jason’s shoes: his girlfriend dies in the trailer of the high school outcast who plays an “evil” roleplaying game with his “satanic cult.” Then Jason witnesses the death of Patrick, who LEVITATES out of the water and dies in the most horrific way imaginable. Given the fact that Jason is convinced that the Hawkins DND club is a satanic cult, and the fact that he watched Patrick die in circumstances that are completely unexplainable to those who have NO idea that the Upside Down or anything related to it even EXISTS—it makes perfect sense that Jason believes that Patrick was most likely possessed, and that satanic worship is the ONLY logical explanation. How else can you explain a supernatural phenomenon that you have no knowledge about?
And who can blame him? He watched the traumatic death of one of his friends, and his girlfriend died in Eddie’s trailer—all of which MUST be linked to the devil from Jason’s perspective. He greatly misunderstood a situation that he simply didn’t know anything about, yet his heart was always in the right place. I believe if given a chance, he would have helped the gang rather than hurt them. So please, let’s give Jason Carver a break. Compared to Billy, Jason is hardly a villain. Jason was trying to be a hero.
Billy.
I hate Billy! I'm not convinced by his redemption of 2 minutes.
Jason, he was doing justice for his girlfriend.
Jason is a better person than Billy
billy I hate you!!
Jason
For me he acted badly but his motivations were correct.
Jason wanted to do justice for his girlfriend, but obviously he was wrong and he did everything wrong, he is not a bad person, he was just blinded by the pain of losing his girlfriend.
I'm not going to say that I cried over Jason's death, but one thing I'm sure of is that Jason loved Chrissy.
The amount of people who chose Jason-wow, I did not expect this. Let’s clear this up-Billy, imo, is far worse than Jason. He made Max miserable for years, even after he died. Sure, he “redeemed” himself, but I barley see that as a decent redemption and his sacrifice only meant that he had at least some good in him. As for Jason, he didn’t even really do anything before his girlfriend got killed-you would be mad and upset as well. Everything he did-he went far, yes, further than he should’ve, trying to kill Eddie and all-but he really just loved his girlfriend and wanted to find the person who did it. Eddie was really suspicious for someone who did not acknowledge the upside down, and I wouldn’t believe anyone who said a board game character killed my girlfriend. Seriously, Billy was worse than Jason to me personally
Jason showed more care for Max in a few minuets than Billy ever did. He wasn’t racist, abusive or misogynistic unlike Billy.
Anyone who chooses Jason is 1. Likely racist 2. Too attracted to Billy 3. Younger than 12
What do you think?
