I mean if he survived I am not sure what else would have happened to the character. I mean he could have given the code number to Hopper and Joyce

I mean the only thing else I see happening to him is him going to Russia with Joyce and Murray to rescue Hopper

He might've done a little bit more to help, then after s3 he probably would try to get his citizenship and never been seen on screen again
