Years fly by. You don't even remember how old you are. You don't even know when's your birthday.
You just say it's January the first. One one.
You spend your days in a small room. There is one bed, a big box of flashcards, a desk, a few pens and a stack of paper. There is no window.
You learned how to write and talk by eavesdropping on conversations and using the flashcards.
Sometimes papa would come. He would take you to a place. It's a room, but it's dark. It's a room, but it's so small, it's more like a stall. Here papa locks a man inside along with you. A man that's alive. And scared. Every time it's a different man. But everyone of them are scared. You see it in their eyes.
"Please," They would sob. "I have a family. I have children. Please don't do this to me."
You, of course, wouldn't care.
All you would want was to finish the whole thing and get out of The Stall.
You would wear the helmet on your head. The one that gave electric flows.
Then papa's voice would come out of the loudspeaker.
"One, let it out."
"It". The Thing. The swirling black dust of yours. The Thing.
Next the helmet would let electricity flow through your head. You would scream in agony and The Thing would come out. Then you would close your eyes. The Thing scared you. When you open your eyes, The Thing would be gone. The Man would be gone. The only things left were you, The Stall and papa's voice.
"Good, One."
You always hated The Stall. You hated it. You're scared of it. You're scared of the dark. You're mad at papa for letting you go inside it. You don't like papa.
And sometimes, you would wonder where The Man went. You knew The Thing just went inside you again. You knew that. But The Man---where did he go?
Today papa came again.
"Is it The Stall?" You ask quietly.
"Yes, One. The Stall. This time no helmet to help you." Papa says softly.
Your anger is burning already. You told him a thousand times before that you hated The Stall, but papa never listens.
"I don't like it." You say, still quietly but with a touch of anger.
"Don't talk back to me." Papa snaps, and grabs you by the arm. Hard. He drags you out of your room and down the hallway, you squirming and crying.
"Please. Not The Stall." You try to scream, but you're crying so hard all that comes out is a hoarse whisper. "It's so dark."
Papa ignores you, and with his free hand, he pulls open a door and push you in. You fall to your knees.
You see the door lock and you scream in anger. You bang the door but papa walks away.
You're in The Stall.
The Man is shaking.
You're still furious, so your eyes are full of fury as you look at The Man.
"Please don't do it." The Man sobs, gulping after every word. "See, I, I have a daughter---Sandy---She's only eight years old! I love her so, so much. Please, please---"
You aren't listening to a word he's saying. You're mad. You need to find a target to release all your anger on.
"One. Kill him."
Your pupils suddenly get twice as large as they were before. Kill him.
That's why The Man always disappeared.
You killed them.
This is too much.
You hate The Stall, you hate papa, you hate your life in your stupid room, in this stupid building. Your whole life you've been stuck inside a place no bigger than a hotel.
You let out a furious scream and The Thing storms out of you.
You don't close your eyes this time.
The Thing races to The Man and as soon as it touches him, The Man fades to ash.
The Thing keeps swirling.
You're not afraid of it anymore.
You're proud of it.
The Thing keeps on swirling, more powerful than ever.
"STOP, ONE!" Papa yells through the loudspeaker.
But you don't.
The Thing keeps spinning and spinning, taking your feet off the ground a few inches. The Thing is spinning as if trying to escape.
Then, The Stall explodes.
The Stall is on the very side of the building, so when it exploded, it left an exit to the world outside.
You see what the world looks like.
It's so beautiful.
The Thing takes you flying toward a pack of woods nearby.
You can still hear the loudspeaker, even though the sound is faint.
"Last escape, experiment eleven, two days ago. Experiment One escaped just now. Remaining experiments: none."
Phew! I hope that was long enough! Lots of comments say the prologue was a bit short.
Just saying here that it's not a chapter for an episode. It's more like a book.
Please comment! :)
