I think we dismiss women far too often in our society, so I don't see why we shouldn't believe her when she said she saw a sexist exchange. Whether it was a one-time thing or a frequent problem on set, we don't know. Knowing the Duffers' relationship to the kids and to Millie, it's hard to believe they're sexist all around, especially as they made a girl their main protagonist. But unfortunately even the most respected and respectful of men can be sexist at times, and it's our duty to speak out when we see it.
I looked further into it, and here's the Duffer Brothers' response:
“We are deeply upset to learn that someone felt uncomfortable on our set. Due to the high-stress nature of production, tempers occasionally get frayed, and for that, we apologize. However, we think it is important not to mischaracterize our set, where we believe strongly in treating everyone fairly regardless of gender, orientation, race, religion, or anything else. We remain totally committed to providing a safe and collaborative working environment for everyone on our productions.”
So it could have been a misinterpretation of a highly stressful moment like they suggest, (film-making is an extremely stressful process), or there could be more to it.
bro wha- I’ve never seen this before 😳
What is being disputed is not what a number of women have experienced on set, but the perception that women were being targeted specifically. The Duffer Brother's acknowledged and apologised for their behaviour, but they basically disaffirmed the statement that they were seeking out women.
It's unsettling how this issue was dealt with in the media, and Peyton Browns further accusations of threats and firing are left up in the air, even after representatives from Neflix made a statement that no wrongdoing had taken place.
The Duffer Brother's characterised their set environment as being fair, and if threats where being made on set and people were being fired based on bias, there would be due process regarding accountability. I'm not denying what Peyton and other employees witnessed or experienced, but I am questioning their determination of The Duffer Brothers motives and judgement.
This is old news.
Ik, thats why I said some of us might have already knew
Ummmm
What do you think?
